Ontario College of PHARMACISTS

This practice will interest regulators who assess practical experience and wish to improve resources for assessors and applicants.

The Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) requires that individuals applying to become registered pharmacists complete a practical experience requirement under the supervision of a preceptor.

The OCP provides resources on its website to support applicants and preceptors. These resources help ensure that preceptors interpret and apply assessment criteria consistently. Resources include:

  • an explanation of the competencies (knowledge and skills) that are assessed

  • policies for preceptor eligibility and conflict of interest

  • orientation workshops for preceptors

  • workshops for preceptors (topics include: international pharmacy graduates, conflict resolution and analysis, and pan-Canadian training for mentors and preceptors)

  • a training portal (including videos for preceptors and applicants)

  • online training manuals accessed through a members' only area

Providing applicants with access to these resources helps them understand the criteria and the way they will be assessed.
