College of Massage Therapists of Ontario

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is the governing body for massage therapists in Ontario. The Office of the Fairness Commissioner (OFC) oversees the registration practices of the college to ensure that they are transparent, objective, impartial and fair for anyone who wants to practise as a massage therapist in this province.

Fair Registration Practices (FRP) Report, 2008

In February 2003, the CMTO submitted proposed changes to its registration regulation to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. In 2008, the CMTO revised its 2003 submission, which had not yet been approved, and proposed a further change regarding the designation and expiry of certificates. As of March 31, 2009, the revised submission was still under review by the ministry.

During the fall and winter of 2007-2008, the OFC undertook a study of the CMTO to understand its 2007 registration practices and establish baseline data and information. PDF

Assessment Highlight

To minimize subjectivity, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario uses a standardized test for assessing applicants' language fluency.
