College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario

The College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) is the governing body for respiratory therapists in Ontario. The Office of the Fairness Commissioner (OFC) oversees the registration practices of the college to ensure that they are transparent, objective, impartial and fair for anyone who wants to practise as as a respiratory therapist in this province.

Audit Report

Evaluation of Credentials: In February 2009, the CRTO introduced a new policy that requires all applicants who obtained their education in respiratory therapy (or a related field) outside of Canada to have their academic qualifications verified by World Education Services (WES). WES will authenticate the documents and prepare a course-by-course evaluation report for the CRTO.

The College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

CRTO The OFC does not assess credentials, handle complaints or intervene in particular cases. Our mandate is one of systemic change. Please contact the CRTO for further information about your ability to practise as as a respiratory therapist in Ontario.

Registration Improvement

The College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario signed an agreement with World Education Services in 2009 to ensure that assessments are conducted in accordance with the fair access law.
