In February 2012, Jean Augustine was reappointed for a two-year term as Ontario's Fairness Commissioner. She is the first and only person ever to hold this position, beginning in 2007. A Member of the Order of Canada - in recognition of her “distinguished career as an educator, politician and advocate for social justice” - her many accomplishments include being the first African-Canadian woman elected to the Parliament of Canada and then the first black woman to serve in a federal Cabinet.
