Ensuring impartiality of clinical evaluators

College of DENTAL HYGIENISTS of Ontario

College of DENTAL HYGIENISTS of Ontario

This practice will interest regulators who wish to improve the impartiality of individuals assessing applicants.

The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) has made efforts to reduce conflicts of interest by removing from its list of approved clinical evaluators:

  • those who teach at non-accredited schools
  • those who provide upgrading courses for candidates
  • current members of council
  • non-council committee members

The CDHO uses group deliberation and internal auditing to monitor evaluators. It pairs evaluators based on statistics derived from their previous evaluations and changes the pairings frequently. It varies individuals involved in internal auditing for each evaluation.

This process ensures that CDHO monitors and maintains the impartiality of its evaluators.
