Certified Management Accountants of Ontario

Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) is the governing body for chartered professional accountants in Ontario. With the proclamation of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario Act, 2017, effective May 17, 2017, The Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario, Certified Management Accountants of Ontario, and The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, are amalgamated and continued as Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. The Office of the Fairness Commissioner (OFC) oversees the registration practices of CPA Ontario to ensure that they are transparent, objective, impartial and fair for anyone who wants to practise as a chartered professional accountant in this province. Fair Registration Practices (FRP) Report, 2009

Bridging Program: The Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Accelerated Program, which is the bridging program of CMA Ontario, is now open to mature students.

Requirements for Certification:

Wilfrid Laurier University has launched the CMA For MBA Program as another path to the designation.
CMA Ontario now accepts Business Application Reports as an alternative to completing practical experience.
Applicants must complete their practical experience before certification. This enables CMA Ontario to identify and help individuals sooner if they have difficulty completing this requirement.

Resources for Students:

Distance learning options are available to students enrolled in the CMA programs. Also, online video is closed-captioned to help English as a Second Language (ESL) students, and a new ESL tool has been developed for international students enrolled in the CMA Accelerated Program.

Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs): An MRA is an agreement between organizations in different jurisdictions. Each organization validates/accepts the licence/certificate granted by the other. Individuals applying to CMA Ontario through the MRAs with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (U.K.) and Certified Public Accountants (Australia) can now have the degree requirement waived if they have completed the required practical experience.
